Englefield House, home to the Benyon family since mid 18th Century, is an Elizabethan country house and surrounding estate. It is named after the battle between the Saxons and the Danes in AD87 and is thought to mean 'Englishman's battle field' or 'Field of Angels' becoming Englefield over time.
A number of designs from
the Devonshire Hunting
series were used at Englefield House
as wall-hangings for a room that is used by the local community. It was felt the room needed to be decorated to provide character, and it was decided that the tapestries from this series were in keeping with the building's history.
