Black Sails is an American drama / adventure TV series set on New Providence Island and a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's novel Treasure Island. The show fictionalises real-life pirates including Anne Bonny, Benjamin Hornigold, Jack Rackham, Charles Vane, Ned Low, and Blackbeard. The series was created by Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine for Starz and debuted online on YouTube, various streaming platforms, On Demand services and cable.
Pirate Productions required two tapestries to decorate one of the sets of the second series of Black Sails. Although there were various tapestries in the Zardi & Zardi portfolio of suitable date and period, there were not two of the correct proportions. It was agreed to use Minerva from the Triumph of the Gods series, as it was already the correct size and Zardi & Zardi overcame the problem of not having a second suitable tapestry by using modern digital techniques to combine two existing pieces from the same series, creating Bacchus and Orpheus.
